Kabale District LUSUDI Research Assistants Inspired to Take the Lead in Advancing Action for Life Skills and Values in East Africa.
The Action for Life skills and Values in East Africa (ALIVE) Research Training, held from 10th–11th November 2025 at Luigi Giussani Research Institute in Kampala, was an enriching and memorable experience for the Kabale District LUSUDI team.
The two-day session brought together Research Assistants and District Coordinators from 6 districts; Kabale, Oyam, Mukono, Mubende, Tororo, and Kampala-Wakiso to deepen their understanding of how learners in primary and secondary schools develop critical life skills, “Problem Solving, Creative Thinking, and Cooperation.”
The training focused on developing learning progressions a structured way of understanding how learners grow step by step in mastering life skills. Trainers demonstrated how these progressions can help teachers identify strengths, gaps, and guide classroom interventions more effectively.
Kabale District Research Assistants team, gave a captivating presentation on how creative thinking can help schools turn waste into something useful, fun, or beautiful. His innovative example inspired many participants and was applauded by trainers as a creative application of classroom-based research.

His insight captured the essence of the Action for Life Skills and Values in East Africa (ALIVE) programme promoting life skills not as abstract concepts, but as practical abilities that can be observed, guided, and strengthened through everyday classroom experiences.
The sessions were expertly facilitated by Stella Rose Akongo, Martin Ariapa, Faridah Nasereka who combined efforts during the training. They kept everyone engaged and motivated through practical exercises, group discussions, and role-play simulations.

The Luigi Giussan Foundation (LGF) and UWEZO-Uganda Secretariat’s organization and hospitality made the entire experience smooth and impactful. The Kabale District LUSUDI team left the training empowered, equipped, and ready to apply the new knowledge in the sampled 6 primary schools and 6 secondary schools across Kabale District, ensuring that data to support development of the learning progression in the 3 key selected life skills, “Solve Problems, Creative Thinking, and Cooperation.”
